Community Helpers

The students really enjoyed meeting our community helpers! They learned a lot about how these jobs help others in the community. Here is Officer Bowman who came to speak to us about his job. The students had a lot of wonderful questions for him!

We also invited the Winston Salem Fire Dept to visit our classes.  The kids were so excited to see them.  They loved watching the firefighters put on their heavy gear.  We talked about safety procedures in a fire at home.  Ask your kids about what they learned!

Classroom Setup

Well, It's September and I am finally getting around to taking some pictures of my home away from home :)

Here is the view from the front door.
Here is the view from the front of the room.
My teacher area.  Lord only knows it won’t stay this clean for long :)
Our behavior clip charts.  I got them from the wonderful Latoya Reed in her Birds Classroom Décor Packet.  You can get it here!

The students created their Social Contract and signed it.  They created the rules as a class that they are agreeing to follow this year.  I got the chevron rules around the contract from the amazing Cara Carroll.  You can find them here.

The Word Wall is on my closet doors.  It looks pretty empty now, but will be full of words the students recognize by the end of the year!  The Word Wall letters are also from Latoya Reed’s Bird Classroom Décor Packet (here)

The following are pictures from our whole group meeting area.  This is where most of our learning takes place!

This is my reading small group table.  Our guided reading groups and writing workshop conferences will be taking place here.  I got the wonderful Reading Focus Wall poster set from Khrys Bosland.  She made a fabulous packet to accompany the Reading Street curriculum.  You can find it here!

Beside of our reading small group area is a large space for anchor charts we have created as a class.
My reading materials are stored in the three drawer sterilite tubs and are organized by objective.
I’m lucky enough to have two separate small group spaces in my classroom.  This is my math small group space.  The Counting Strategy Posters on the board are from Keeping It Captivating and can be found here.  They have been so helpful in showing students various counting strategies.  The number anchor charts above the board are from Cara Carroll’s Don’t Forget My Number unit.  It is just amazing and can be found here.  The ways to represent a number posters are a great reference for my sweet kinders and can be found here.
I also store all of my math activities in the three drawer sterilite tubs organized by objective.

Here is my classroom library where my students can check out books and take them home as well as use this as a work station.

Our class birthday display.

Here is the moral focus wall.  Our school has a virtue for each month that we reinforce.

The following are other snapshots from around the classroom.

Thanks so much for taking a tour!  If you have any questions, please feel free to email me!  I’d love to hear from you!  hdforestieri@gmail.com
