Field Trip to Sci Works



The students LOVED going to Sci Works!  We had so much fun!  Here are a few pictures of what we did and what we learned!
















Apple Week

The students just loved tasting apples!  To end our apple unit of study we made applesauce on our crock put.  Here are a few pictures of the students trying it:




Beginning Workstations



The students have done a phenomenal job of following our rules and procedures for workstations!  Plus, they've had a lot of fun :)  These stations are an essential piece to their learning this year.  They get to explore and discuss concepts previously taught with their partners.  I can honestly say that workstation time is their favorite part of our day (besides recess, of course :))  While in these stations I am able to pull leveled groups for both math and reading.  These groups help me to target you child where they are and push them in ways I would never be able to do if our instruction was whole group all day long.  Here is a peak in to our workstations.enjoy!!

MATH


Gumball math is one of their favorite stations!  They choose a task card, read the amount, find that many gumballs and show their thinking on their recording sheet.


This station has been so helpful with number formation.  The students take a number card, spy the number and then trace it. 


This station aids in number formation as well.  It also helps the students with one to one correspondence by recognizing the number, building it and then using unifix cubes to represent it.

 
This next station helps with one to one correspondence as well.  The students choose an apple task card, pick that many apples and place them in their baskets and then record their findings on the recording sheet.

The students have just loved going fishing for numbers!  They go fishing and then count the number of dots on their fish and then color the corresponding fish on their recording sheet.

This station allows the students to practice putting numbers in the correct order as well as one to one correspondence.  They place the numbers from 1-10 in the pocket chart and then count out the corresponding number of crayons to match.

The students count the number of crayons on the task card and record the number on their recording sheet.  There is another part to this station where the students do a similar task using pencils.



I have to remind them every day not to eat this next station :) The students choose a numbered task card, bake that many cupcakes then find that number of cupcakes on their recording sheets.

The students choose a numbered “vase” and place the corresponding number of flowers inside.  Then they record their findings on the sheet provided.

The last math station is a roll and record station.  The students roll a dice and record the number after counting the dots.

READING 

The students choose a letter page and practice writing the letter shapes.  This is so important at this time in the year to recognize letters and learn how to correctly form the letter shapes.

This station helps with rhyming.  The students spread out all of the pumpkin cards, take turns choosing one and finding it’s matching pair.


In this station the students choose a name mat and build it with play-doh.  This helps their fine motor skills and letter recognition.


This station helps with their fine motor skills as well while also helping match capital and lowercase letters.




This station helps the students to familiarize themselves with the alphabet.  They choose a missing letter card and fill in the missing letters with the corresponding apples and then record. 

This next skill is a basic book and print awareness skill that has the students sort the cards based on whether or not they are words or letters.


The students sort the picture cards based on whether or not the words rhyme.  They then record their findings on the recording sheet provided.

There are a few more stations not pictured:
The sight word station.  The students choose a piece of popcorn with a sight word written on it from the popcorn container, read it and record it.
The library station.  The students choose a book, record it's title, illustrate their favorite part and write about it.
The art station.  Because it is still kindergarten....:) the students create an apple man in this next station by cutting apart the pieces and gluing them together.  They also cut and glue the poem to go along with it.

Please ask your students about these stations and what they are learning!  They change out monthly so check back for more posts about what they are learning!
